An acceptable article must relate to current problems, issues, or programs that deal with our society or global matters that are appropriate for school. Articles about entertainment, local weather, or sports new are not acceptable. An article should not be more than 2 weeks old. Feel free to ask if you are unsure if an article is acceptable.
Requirements:
Your current events assignments should be typed. The original source should be either printed from the website or cut from the newspaper/magazine. It should be no more than 1 typed page, double-spaced, size 12-font with standard 1” margins. It should fulfill the requirements below.
Part 1 – Summary/Facts
• Paragraph 1: What happened? What is the article about?
• Paragraphs 2: Provide the WHO, WHEN, WHERE of the event/issue.
• Paragraphs 3-4: Provide the WHAT (at least 4 important facts with details) and WHY of the event/issue.
Part 2 – Connections – Choose 1 or 2
• Paragraph 5: How does the issue affect our lives? How does the event relate to understanding the past or future? Does the event relate to a topic that we have read or learned about in class?
Due Dates:
March 1 Current Event Worksheet Due
1. Select an article for the worksheet AND the above project.
a. Use details, especially in the “WHAT” category.
2. Complete a second Worksheet re: the Curious George book.
March 8 Current Event Essay Due
1. Follow all requirements above.
2. Score yourself according to following rubric.
